Dreams

In "Who Am I?" unit 4, we learned about our dreams and how they interconnect to our lives. We also learned that each dream has a unique meaning. For our action project, we were assigned to create our own dreamcatcher and a meaning behind it.  I also had to explain what negative and positive elements I wanted or did not want within my dreams. During the unit, I was told to analyze a dream of mine and I enjoyed this task. I was especially happy that I was able to apply the knowledge I gained from the unit, into my analysis. I wanted my dreamcatcher to contain all of the different feelings that I would like to have through the colors and materials I used. I felt this task to be difficult, but I was ultimately able to conquer this challenge. I am proud and happy with how my dreamcatcher turned out.

In the middle of my dreamcatcher, you can see that I have an orange figure, which reminds me of my basketball championship. The center of my dreamcatcher represents the relationships that I cherish and that they are the bliss or creator of my life. When I would look at it on my desk, I can remember the strong emotions that I associate it with such as hard work, patience, success, and most of all, happiness. I wanted my dreamcatcher to symbolize happiness. In my life, happiness is one of the most precious and valuable feelings that I cherish. I found that happiness can introduce new emotions such as comfort, love, power, and a sense of warmth. While I sleep, I want to feel these positive emotions. I would like these emotions to enter my subconscious so that when I am conscious in my life, I can always attract and surround myself with these feelings.

I chose colors that reflect positivity such as white and various blues. I feel these colors symbolize various things such as happiness, power, and positivity, but also uncertainty. These emotions contribute to the feelings of the dream that I was able to analyze.  I want to filter out elements of something I can’t do, bad people who take advantage, and not having happiness or fulfillment.

There have been many dreams that have inspired me to take action, but there is one that has especially impacted me the most and it goes as follows: I was at a table where all I could see was an opponent and in front of me was a chess table. My anxiety was at an all-time high and the reason I felt so anxious was because of my competitiveness. In the moment, all I could think about is what move to make, which brought up even more anxiety. I could remember that all of these moves were made strategically with each move having a meaning. This game of chess was played as though my life depended on it. I knew I wanted to win badly, so I had to outsmart my opponent. Chess is a game of patience and strategy, which means that every move matters. Towards the end, I had a clear advantage. I was in the position of winning, which is where I wanted to be. The game ultimately ended in me winning.

If I could change anything, I would not. If I could ask the dream something, I would ask it to give me the steps to achieve my goal. I learned that when there is something worth fighting for, fight for it and never stop trying until you get it. If this dream contained a message for me or wanted to tell me something, I think it would be to never give up and try everything in your power to get what you want. This is why I wrapped and added light colors around my dreamcatcher to send me positive messages.
