The Loaves of Bread

In the second unit of my science course, Food, we learned many things. In this unit, we learned about the chemistry of cooking such as why certain foods are used and how they react to each other in order to create a certain product. For example, I learned how the ingredients in a cookie react with each other in order to produce what we know as a cookie. In addition, we were assigned an action project. The purpose of the action project was to conduct an experiment and test various leavening agents in a loaf of bread to see how the height differs between the loaves with each different agent. In this experiment, I had to make the dough by hand and bake it. I found this to be the most challenging part, but it was the most rewarding because I was able to taste them. In the end, I had to create a scientific lab report, which I felt I had the most success on. Overall, I enjoyed this action project.
