Low Back Pain Medicine

In the second unit of my STEAM course, Cure, I learned about the revolution of medicine with the discovery of penicillin, how antibiotics work, and discovered allopathic treatments. In addition, I was able to practice balancing chemical and mathematical equations. Being able to learn about the history of medicine was very interesting to me and allowed me to see the variety of treatments ranging from osteopathic to allopathic treatments. For my action project, I was told to create a visual comparison of osteopathic, allopathic, and homeopathic treatments for an ailment of my choice. I decided to choose Low Back Pain. Also, I was told to create a medicine box that would communicate my information and create a QR code that led to a video of me demonstrating how to solve a quadratic equation using the quadratic formula. I felt that the most challenging part of this project was creating the images to replicate the style of a medicine box. However, I felt that I was able to overcome that. Overall, I am proud of how my Low Back Pain medicine box turned out and all the information I was able to learn from it.

There are approximately 31 million Americans who experience back pain at any given time.

The first medical treatment I researched was the over-the-counter drug called Acetaminophen, which is also commonly known as Tylenol.

The prescription medication that I researched is Celecoxib, which is sold as the brand name Celebrex.

The first homeopathic treatment that I researched was the flowering plant Horse-Chesnut. This flowering plant can be found in capsules or liquid drops. To take it, you use the syringe provided to suck up the liquid, transfer it to your mouth, and squeeze it, taking two drops.

The last treatment that I researched was Acupuncture. It was extremely interesting learning about how pain can be relieved by sticking needles in your back. Inserting the needles in the back between the second and third vertebrae from the bottom of the spine can help lower back pain, however, there are many other's that can. The information is listed on the photo above.

Finally, the image above display's all my resources or "ingredients". Along with that, it has a QR Code that leads to a video that I created showing how to solve a Quadratic Equation.
